Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
